today was vicki's day to do route work (find/check routes and see if they were nice enough to take the travelers on). she was nice enough to let us tag along and see all the beautiful sights that the travelers get to see. chris was a super helpful map reader and i was super at taking photos from the back seat :) again, vicki has lots of great information about why things were the way they were and gave us history lessons about bridges and building and cemeteries. i bet she's the best guide! we got to see cute little towns on a river, we went back to Bardolino (for some seriously yummy and well needed drinks) and then we went back to Verona...FOR THE OPERA! we sat in the arena, on the medieval stone steps at the very top, and watched "Aida". it was in italian (obviously) and we couldn't understand a single thing about the story (except, as always, love and tragedy) but the costumes, sets and dancing were incredible. and seeing a trained, professional opera singer perform in quite the experience. they weren't miked and you could pretty much hear everything they were singing! it was insane! (and we were at the very top of the audience). we never EVER thought we see an opera...let alone one in an ancient roman ampitheatre IN ITALY! pretty awesome!
it was a great couple days! we are so lucky vicki is the best ever! we love her! and, for me, seeing the town where Romeo and Juliet was based was incredible. i reverted back into my 16 year old self and could only think of lindsay! hahaha. GOOD TIMES!!!

we stopped at this 11th century church with a cemetery. vicki told us all about the lost art of roman architecture once christianity took over.
i wish we had cypress trees back home. i love them
and we stopped at these castle ruins
it reminded us of ireland
the town that belonged to this castle was Borghetti...the best!
of course we had gelato...chris was having a taste of my limone and fragole (lemon and strawberries)
the houses/stores were built over the river so it runs through the little town
how beautiful is this with the rowboat there?
vicki and her gelato...we HAD to try it out before the travelers got there. had to make sure it was good enough for them :)
:)
such a cute little town. i'm so glad we stopped there.
then we headed over to the lake...this was a really pretty town as well. Peschiera. i wish we could have gone swimming!
views from the back seat
we had a wonderful idea to steal some yummy looking peaches from the trees
joke's on us...they were hard as rocks :( couldn't even eat them!
vineyards everywhere!
back to Bardolino for a visit
this chair is RIDICULOUS
this is chris' interpretation (thanks to top gear) of what an alfa romeo looks like
1L beers!
the arena at night
AIDA - the opera
we were all opera virgins
so many people...look how cool this place is though!
amazing costumes!
this conductor was my hero...he jumped around like a crazy bean!
such amazing sets!
